More than a calendar

A village woven into one family’s life.

Kildysart is not simply a place I visit with a camera. It is part of my family’s everyday life—the roads we travel, the village square we pass and the Shannon Estuary light that changes from hour to hour.

For ten years, I have made this calendar as a record of the place our family calls home. Each edition holds on to familiar buildings, seasonal colour and moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

A place with deep roots

The village beside the great tide.

Kildysart stands on the northern banks of the Shannon Estuary. Its Irish name, Cill an Dísirt, recalls an old church or hermitage, while an earlier form of the name also carries the memory of the estuary’s great tides.

For generations, the river connected the village with Limerick and the wider world. The surrounding estuary islands, old quay, village square and familiar streets still hold that layered story.

With appreciation: Kildysart’s vivid flower displays and cared-for public spaces reflect the year-round work of local Tidy Towns volunteers. A special local edition is available in Kildysart shops, with all proceeds going to support the Tidy Towns group.
