My favorite little shop in Ireland -- The Rock Shop -- in Liscannor, County Clare, between Lehinch and Doolin. This actually is the front of the lovely place, which sells all manner of stones, crystals and jewelry.
Only 5 km. from the Cliffs of Moher, it's also a popular tourist stop, right on the coast with views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Liscannor has an interesting history. John P. Holland, the inventor of the modern submarine, was born there in 1841.
His designs were used first by the British and Japanese naval fleets, but they initially were rejected by the U.S. Navy, in their infinite wisdom, as "a fantastic scheme of a civilian landsman." The U.S. Navy now has at least 70 submarines in its fleet...
Author/Photographer James A. Truett, creator of the "Mystical Moods of Ireland" series of books and photographic essays, enjoys sharing the beauty of the world through his words and images. Growing up in Alaska, he began his career as a journalist and photographer at the age of 14. By the age of 19, his work had been published in virtually every major newspaper in the world. His latest books, a two-volume set, "Mystical Moods of Ireland: Enchanted Celtic Skies," showcase the ever-changing moods of the skies of Ireland. Truett resides in County Clare, Ireland.
